Ever gone into a bookstore and seen the author of a book sitting at a special table in the front – pen in hand – smiling at the line of customer waiting for him or her to sign their copy of the author’s new book?

I have stood in a line like that, happy to meet the one whose book I just bought, and to have them sign it to me, or even just put their signature in it.  One particular time it was a famous author of children’s books and I was fascinated at how much she resembled the pictures of the books she had also illustrated.  The characters she drew were extensions of herself and her handiwork.

So I got a picture in my mind one day recently of God, at a desk, signing His Own Book,  (the Bible certainly), but I remembered that God is the Author and Finisher of our faith. (Hebrews 12:2).  Our Maker, Our Heavenly Father, Creator of all things wrote our lives, fashioned us, illustrated us, to resemble the Author, (So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him, male and female He created them) (Genesis 1:27).  And it gets better than that, because He has several Books mentioned in the Bible, one of them being a book about our lives; (and every day of our lives were written in His book before one of them came to be).Psalm 139:16.

So there God is at His “desk” signing His precious book of me – His book of you- with a flourish and a fabulous note of love and blessing.  He wrote the end, the beginning and all the pages and details in between. “I know the thoughts and plans I have for you, says The Lord. Thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.”  (Jeremiah 29;11).

Hey, what about having my own choices about my life, you ask?  Oh, God made the plans and made it a perfect one for each of us, but we can choose the ending.  Jesus died on the cross to redeem us from perishing outside of God’s will for us, living in eternity apart from God and a good forever, …or choose Jesus as Lord and have an eternity of unimaginable glory and joy.  The book God wrote is an eternal book, and He fully desires for all his creation to choose Him, and choose life.  There is one Book that we have to choose to be in by choosing Jesus – The Book of Life.  That book is mentioned in Revelation 3:5, Philippians 4:3 and Jesus told His followers to rejoice that their names were written in the Book of Life (enrolled in Heaven) (Luke 10:20)
